Purim Masquerade Ball and Political Theater w/dance and merriment celebrates springtime and skewers political leaders through a wild re-telling of the Book of Esther. The event is non-religious and dedicated to the experience of turning everything upside down and inside out. Led off by the Brass Balagan Orchestra, the evening will be filled with dance and strong spirits, following the Purim theater.

The Book of Esther was composed in 400 BCE when the Jews lived in Persia.  Since then, it is celebrated by the reading of text and costumes, political theater, and an excess of alcohol consumption. Ruach haMaqom, the emergent center for Jewish Life in Burlington, sponsors this event.  (www.ruachhamaqom.org).  We are a non-denominational synagogue, and welcome Jews and others alike into a path of spiritually, eco-consciousness, social action and fun.  We are based at Ahavat Gerim, in the little red synagogue on Archibald in the Old North End, which is  the oldest synagogue building in Vermont.
